Increase Search Engine Web Site Traffic
Your website is built and published, you are ready to start selling to the public and you are paying through the nose to get traffic onto the site.
Isn't there an easy and cheap way of capturing traffic?
Search Engine Traffic In Not Difficult, It Just Takes Work!
Search engine traffic is available and it's not brain surgery to use search engines to drive traffic to your web site. You just need to plan a little.
First, before starting to write your pages, how are you going to find out if the search engine traffic is there and more importantly, if you stand a chance of winning any? In the competitive market of search engines, getting to the top for popular search terms is highly unlikely.
Preparing To Drive Traffic To Your Web Site From Search Engines
So where are you going to start? Have a look around and find a key word suggestion tool. Many search engines have these and some search engine optimisation sites also carry them.
Now, type in a very broad keyword for your product and see what is suggested. Try again with more specific terms and remember to think laterally to come up with the obscure and unusual terms.
Next, find a web site that will tell you how often keywords are searched for in a major search engine. This gives you an indication of how much potential web site traffic there is for these terms. Continue through the list for all of your discovered keywords.
Checking Search Engine Results
Reviewing what you have gathered so far, you have a list of keywords and the likely search engine traffic they will each generate. Now, we need to work out how well you will fare in searches on these keywords.
Visit your favourite search engines and type in some of these terms. Look carefully at the number of results returned, that's a good indication of how hard it will be to succeed. And also look through some of the results. Look at the information displayed on the search engine and visit some of the sites and find the search terms. Are these sites optimised for these keywords, or are the search engines just finding the terms scattered throughout the pages?
If the pages aren't optimised for your terms, then there's a chance of getting good search engine traffic by optimising a page on your web site correctly. And that's where we come to search engine optimisation tricks and techniques.....
Why Not Try For Traffic From Popular Keywords?
Popular keywords will have lots of web traffic, and lots of competition. No doubt they will also account for most of the traffic for their field. But will you really get any traffic at all from optimising for them?
We recently changed the emphasis of one of our own web sites slightly. Instead of going for a main keyword, we targeted a more specific keyword. Quite quickly the traffic coming into the website from all major search engines was seen to increase.
By careful choice of correct keywords we were now competing for traffic from a less competitive keyword. Although that keyword produced less traffic than the main one, we were appearing towards the top of search engine results so were now getting plenty of traffic to the web site.
The Next Stage To Search engine Web Traffic
So you've identified some suitable keywords, you know they are getting some traffic and that the competition isn't to great. What are you going to do to convert this information into search engine web site traffic?
